Autumn Fern

Dryopteris erythrosora

Autumn Fern
Autumn Fern is a beautiful plant, with it's immature fronds unfurling to a copper/red color. In hotter conditions & as leaves mature, they turn to green. This is one of our largest-growing ferns, and is recommended only for larger habitats, since it tops out around 30" high or so. (Although it can easily be trimmed back to remain shorter) Grows on a rhizome & slowly spreads out. Tolerates a wide range of lighting conditions, and does best with substrate kept moist.

$5.99/ea 4in Pot
Well established plant, typically 6-8in+ tall!

Button Fern

Pellaea rotundifolia

Button Fern
An excellent, low-growing fern that makes a great addition to a live vivarium. In our experience, this plant does best in low to medium light with moist (not saturated) soil. Although the fronds grow to about 12 inches in length, the plant rarely grows over 10" tall or so, since the arc of each frond is fairly low. As the plant matures, the leaves become more oval (as opposed to round in immature plants), and the stems turn to a deep red color.

$5.99/ea 4in Potted Plant
Well established plant, typically 6-8in+ tall!

Heart Fern

Hemonitis arifolia

Heart Fern
A beautiful heart-shaped miniature fern that thrives in humid vivarium conditions! Grows to about 6-8" tall. Thrives under moderate amounts of light, and sucecptable to leaf burning & discoloration under extremely bright conditions. Does best with a well draining soil that's kept moist. Heart Fern does not tolerate periods of dryness, so be sure to keep soil moist!

$6.49/ea - 4in pot
Well established plant, typically 5-7in+ tall!

Kangaroo Fern

Microsorum pustulatum

Kangaroo Fern
A medium to large species with beautiful glossy green leaves. This plant grows on a rhizome in a trailing/vining pattern. Younger plants (as shown & sold) have multiple fronds that eventually grow into wider pinnae, which resemble a Kangaroo's footprint. An excellent choice for vivaria housing inhabitants large or small. In nature, this plant grows epiphytically on tree branches, as well as at ground level. This plant's is a great looking & easy choice for many vivariums, especially enclosures housing larger species of Reptile & Amphibian. At NEHERP, we often use these in Gargoyle Gecko, Crested Gecko, and Leachianus Gecko live vivariums, and the plants absolutely thrive. Can easily be mounted on a background, so long as the rhizome is 1'st wrapped with a little Sphagnum.

Korean Rock Fern

Polystichum tsus-simense

Korean Rock Fern
One of our best selling small fern species, and a real hobby favorite. It's small growth pattern makes this fern an ideal vivarium candidate, and it's proven to be adaptable of a wide range of vivarium environments. This species thrives in both low & average lighting conditions, prefers to be misted fairly frequently, and does best when the substrate isn't allowed to dry out between waterings. At NEHERP, we've planted these in many different vivariums which house a huge variety of different species. A great choice for anything from a tiny Dart Frog vivarium, up to a large Gecko enclosure.

Well established plant, typically 5-6in tall!

Lemon Button Fern

Nephrolepis cordifolia

Lemon Button Fern
One of our most popular terrestrial plants, Lemon Button Fern is excellent for use in many types of vivariums. It's growth pattern is very attractive, and the species is as forgiving as it is easy to grow. This fern throws thin, fuzzy rhizomes as it acclimates, which can spread & sprout more ferns over time. Lemon Button Fern grows well in medium to high light, with fairly moist substrate. Does not tolerate long periods of very dry conditions. Grows to around 9-12" high before fronds begin to bend & arc downward. This is a fast growing species once it establishes itself, and is very easy to mount on backgrounds & in other elevated locations. At NEHERP, we love using these in grow out vivariums, Gecko enclosures, and in vivariums ranging from 55-75% relative humidity. Please keep in mind an established Lemon Button Fern plant can grow quickly in high humidity (over 75% R/H) once established, and these conditions may require more frequent trimming. In our experience, lower amounts of light can help slow the fern's growth if desired.

Rabbit's Foot Fern

Davallia fejeensis

Rabbit's Foot Fern Rabbit's Foot Fern
Our most popular & most requested species of fern. This unique plant's fuzzy rhizomes crawl across the vivarium floor & along wood vivarium decor, sprouting new growth as it spreads. Rabbit's Foot Fern does best when the substrate or growth surface isn't allowed to completely dry between watering. This plant can grow epiphytically, and is a great candidate for mounting on a background, or planting on an elevated wood decor item. (Although it thrives in NEHERP vivariuum substrates too!) In our experience, this plant prefers medium/high light, and grows to 6-10" tall. Ideal for vivariums of all sizes.
