About Our Natural Vines:

Mushrooms Growing in Bioactive Terrarium From NEHERP

Applications For Wood Vines
Natural wood vines are an awesome tool for designing a realistic bioactive terrarium habitat. Depending on the goals, natural vines can either be used "as is" in an enclosure, or integrated into a fully custom background. Our thicker Curly Vines are able to support the weight of relatively large animals like Chameleons, while Curly Willow Branches are especially useful for creating a lightweight visual aesthetic of a climbing/trailing vine. Our Ghostwood Straights are hand-graded relatively basic pieces which also do a great job for filling the gap of a "vine" style product. Like all Ghostwood, these become much darker once moistened, and will support epiphytic plant life in ideal conditions. In all cases, we recommend anchoring the wood decor if they will be used in an enclosure which houses a live animal. (We most often use silicone!) Notes About Rarity & Availability
Back in 2011, we offered three additional styles of rigid tropical vines, but tightening environmental regulations have made importing many types of interesting species increasingly more difficult. Nowadays, even larger brands like Zoo Med have had to drop "Twisty Vine" products, which were always a favorite for us. We're always on the lookout for new alternatives, and hope to have some introduced if/when they become available to us once again. If you had your heart set out for a specific type of vine which is currently unavailable, we'd suggest checking out local reptile expos, where vendors may have some left over from old stock. (If you are a vendor with old vine stock, we'd love to purchase some from you!) In the meantime, we've also got some artificial vines available, if you are interested!

Curly Jungle Vine

Rigid all-natural jungle vines

Curly Vine For Live Vivariums & Bioactive Terrariums

These are finally back in stock after years of sourcing difficulty. Jungle Vines are ideal for being used loose in an enclosure, or for integration into one of our Custom Background Kits. These offer totally natural climbing spots for arboreal animals while add to the realistic aesthetic of a live vivarium enclosure. Epiphytic plants will readily grow & climb on these in humid/moist environments, and are an awesome choice for plants like Tillandsia, Moss Slurry, and many vining species. Jungle Vines are available in two lengths, depending on your specific enclosure's requirements. A single vine's diameter can range from around 3/4in to 1.25in across it's length (on average), and every piece is unique. Jungle Vine availability can be spotty due to import difficulties & delays, so pick some up while they are available!

Curly Willow Branches

NEHERP Staff Description
The flexible branches of Curly Willow can be incorporated into custom background design, or used alone as a decor item. Sold in 3' tall bunches of 4-5 branches. If kept in a dry habitat, these will harden & become more rigid as they dry. In very humid enclosures, these will break down naturally over time. While all of the other wood decor we carry is shipped to us in sealed containers, Curly Willow Branches are shipped via freight in wrapped (not 100% sealed) bundles. With that in mind, we strongly recommend washing these thoroughly before use.

NEHERP Staff Description:
These Ghostwood straights are a great lower-cost option for those looking for a simpler, straighter, and less "spread out" piece of Ghostwood. (Sometimes a super-branchy piece of wood just isn't the right fit!) We've used these to create the look of fallen branches, rigid vines, partially buried roots, and more. When creating custom backgrounds, these can be added as additional focal points around a larger hardscape, or even as a part of a centerpiece in small enclosures. Ghostwood gets darker when moist, as shown in this picture. Please note, although we refer to these as "straights" at NEHERP, they aren't completely straight, and have plenty of variation! (They are fairly straight when compared to our best-selling Ghostwood branches) Please reference the photo above, as each piece can range a bit in overall shape & appearance.
