About Humidification
Keeping humidity within an acceptable range requires the amount of airflow & misting to be carefully balanced. If you are looking for more humidity, we generally recommend starting by controlling airflow using our glass inserts or a partial glass top. The act of controlling airflow will help minimize drastic & sudden drops in humidity which can be caused by ambient room conditions, and help keep conditions steady. To boost humidity from there, we recommend misting the enclosure. The frequency & duration of the misting schedule (either by hand or automated system) will depend on your ambient conditions, ideal conditions for your animal(s), enclosure type, and more. It'll take some adjustment on your end once the enclosure is set up, but settling on a proven misting schedule is usually a pretty simple task.
We recommend using an automated system if it's comfortably in your project's budget to do so. Automation makes maintenance almost completely hands-off, and the plants & microfauna will benefit from the regularity. Having said that, an automated misting system isn't necessarily essential for those who'll be diligent about hand misting.

Mist King Starter Misting System
A complete high quality misting system for 1-10 nozzles
NEHERP Staff Description:
This is our favorite misting system for small & medium applications. At the time of this writing, NEHERP uses three Mist King systems at our warehouse and we've never had a problem with one. (Our oldest system is upwards of 6 years old!) The starter kit comes with one nozzle and all of the supporting supplies to make it work (minus the reservoir). This kit can be upgraded to run up to 10 nozzles using the available Mist King Accessories. For advice on how many nozzles we'd recommend using on your enclosure, please click here.
Use the above graph to get a better idea of how many nozzles we'd recommend using for your specific enclosure. The nozzle suggestion for "Partial Coverage" would allow one side of the enclosure to be misted, while the rest remains dry. The "Good Coverage" suggestion will cover the vast majority of a basic vivarium, with only a select few spots left not directly misted. (Most common) The "Total Coverage" suggestion will ensure just about every inch of the entire enclosure can be misted, and is recommended for exhibit-quality enclosures and/or for those who are keeping highly sensitive plants. These suggestion numbers are for single nozzles, so the optional double nozzle would count as two towards the goal.

Zoo Med Drippers

Drippers are useful for a handful of different species, although Chameleons are probably the most commonly associated Reptile. We recommend dialing-in your preferred drip rate and positioning the drip tube over a plant (or dish) which can absorb any excess water. Once that's settled, an appropriate amount of water can be added to the dripper reservoir to help automate the process a bit whenever the inhabitant could benefit from a drink.

Zoo Meds Drippers simulate natural rainfall and provide humidity for captive reptiles. The Dripper has a folding handle lid that allows you to suspend the dripper above the enclosure. Especially helpful for animals that do not readily drink standing water and instead drink "dew" from leaves (i.e. Old World Chameleons).
Zoo Med Reptifogger

This is our favorite commercially available fogging device for Terrariums & Vivariums. It's the only fogger we carry at NEHERP, and has proven to be far more reliable & long lasting than "in tank" style foggers. We personally recommend setting this up on a timer, and using it as part of an aesthetic effect rather than a tool for ensuring plants & animals receive enough moisture. (Misting Systems are more appropriate & effective for adding moisture & increasing humidity, if that's your goal!) This device can produce enough fog to fill up even large (100 gallon) enclosures with fog completely over time, so utilizing the control dial & a timer can really help to achieve whatever effect an enthusiast could desire. Always use R/O filtered water to maximize the lifespan of the unit. The available Multiport Fogger Attachment allows the fog stream to be divided into three separate tubes which can spread the fog across multiple enclosures, or distribute it more evenly over a single one. (Great for custom background fog-area control!)
