This article has been eaten by a frog!
Here's why:
This article was originally written as a simplified version of Vivarium Lighting 101, and was hosted on our site between 2013 and late 2016. After our main Vivarium Lighting 101 article was re-written in December of 2016 with tons of new content, this old "basic" version just seemed a little too basic by comparison. We attempted to re-write it while keeping the topic lighter & simpler, but after careful consideration, we've decided to get rid of this particular page. Instead, we present the following options, and we hope they help!
Option 1:

Hundreds of proven, enclosure-specific lighting solutions
If you aren't interested in learning the theory behind why certain lighting options should be used, we'd recommend checking out our lighting kits. This is the quickest way to see exactly what we'd recommend for your particular enclosure. We provide as many examples of what we'd recommend as we can, so you won't just be stuck with a single option to choose from.
Option 2:

The most comprehensive vivarium lighting article online
There's no easy way to simplify the topic of selecting a vivarium light source, without oversimplifying it, in our opinion. Believe us, we tried. In Vivarium Lighting 101, you'll learn about Lumens, Color Temperature, PAR light, the Inverse Square Law, and how each one is critically important when selecting a light source for your vivarium. This is the best place to start learning about lighting theory.
