A feeder insect which is naturally high in calcium + phosphorous
▾ Show Description ▾
Black Soldier Fly Larvae are premium feeder insects that are naturally high in calcium. Compared to crickets, BSFL have 50% more fat, 2,300%+ more calcium, and have an excellent calcium-to-phosphorous ratio (1.52). Similar to waxworms in texture and size, they are an ideal feeder for a number of Reptiles, Amphibians, and even Fish! Unlike other feeders, BSFL do not require dusting with calcium supplements or gutloading prior to feeding. NEHERP's BSFL are kept around 50F for maximum longevity & freshness.

Mealworms are a popular insect for Reptiles & Amphibians. We breed our own Mealworms here at NEHERP, and we rely on Repashy Bug Burger as a primary diet. They are "gutloaded" with the highest quality foods prior to being introduced to our cooler for long-lasting dormancy. While Mealworms do great at 70F, we recommend storing them around 50F if possible to help slow their metabolisms, and discourage them from pupating.
▾ Show Description ▾
Superworms are a popular insect for Reptiles & Amphibians. We don't breed Superworms in-house, but we do our best to feed & care for them in ways which set ours apart. For starters, our Superworms are fed Repashy Bug Burger as a primary diet before being separated into carefully (over) counted cups. This way they've been "gutloaded" for dormancy in our cooler, and will be ready for feeding the moment they arrive home. While Superworms do great at 70F, we recommend storing them around 50F if possible to help slow their metabolisms, and discourage them from pupating.

Cork Flats
Hand selected cork flats
▾ Show Description ▾
NEHERP Staff Description:
Cork is a lightweight & highly detailed type of wood which holds up very well in a variety of conditions ranging from ultra dry to ultra humid. It has a bunch of different uses ranging from loose decor to incorporation into fully custom backgrounds. We use Cork in the vast majority of vivariums we build at NEHERP, and Cork Flats are the least expensive option sold by the individual piece. We try to be fairly accommodating with individually purchased cork pieces, so if your cork is for something specific, let us know after you order.
▾ Show Description ▾
NEHERP Staff Description:
These individually selected rounds are selected & graded by hand, with less-than-great pieces being broken up into "Cork Gallon Bags" for sale at a discount. This unique grading process has been used since 2013 to ensure the individual rounds we ship look great, and have plenty of character. We try to be fairly accommodating with individually purchased cork pieces, so if your cork is for something specific, let us know after you order.

NEHERP Staff Description:
Ghostwood is considered one of the most sought after wood types in the vivarium building hobby, and a real favorite to everyone who works at NEHERP. It can be a fairly difficult type of wood to source, and we aim to keep an excellent selection in stock and ready to ship. This wood does great in all conditions; dry or wet! These particular dramatic branched pieces are hand-selected, and highly detailed. Ask around - we ship the best looking Ghostwood in the hobby! Ghostwood gets darker when moist, as shown in this picture, and becomes very dark brown once fully saturated. You won't be disappointed with the examples we pull for you!
A dark & heavy type of wood, suitable for wet environments
▾ Show Description ▾
NEHERP Staff Description:
Malaysian Driftwood holds up long term in humid settings, and has beautiful rough textures & shapes. Malaysian Driftwood sinks underwater, and is perfectly suited to bridging the gap between land & water areas. In general, we consider this wood too heavy for most custom background work, and it does best when used for ground-level decor.
Extremely detailed & rigid wood, suitable for a wide variety of habitats
Picture representative of 13-24in pieces. See description for details.
▾ Show Description ▾
NEHERP Staff Description:
Raw, light, extremely intricate Manzanita wood. We don't sell the "solid line/log" Manzanita, only the very detailed "branchy" type (shown above) that looks great in a wide variety of conditions. Manzanita is suitable for both dry & humid habitats. Mounting these pointing downward in a custom background yields an amazing "root system" look. We guarantee you'll love the selection!
Sizing/Grading Note:
We now grade & hand-cut our Manzanita Branches in-house to provide the highest quality product possible. The smaller 6-9in piece will have a smaller overall diameter than the photo above. We find this size perfect for dwarf species, small terrariums, accent decor, and more. The photos are an accurate representation of what you'll receive for pieces ranging from 13-24in. The 25-28in size is typically even more detailed, however they aren't available to us as often as we'd like!
A two-tone, ultra-heavy type of wood, suitable for wet environments
▾ Show Description ▾
NEHERP Staff Description:
Mopani is an ultra-heavy & dense type of wood from Africa, which holds up long term in humid settings. It has a two-tone color palette naturally, with both rough and smooth textures which vary by piece. Mopani Wood sinks underwater, and is perfectly suited to bridging the gap between land & water areas. In general, we consider this wood too heavy for most custom background work, and it does best when used for ground-level decor.

In the back of the screen cover are 5 closable wire or tube inlets on both sides to install heating products, pumps, environmental sensors, etc. inside the terrarium. The bottom plate of the terrarium is raised to mount a substrate heater to heat a part of the extended ground surface. The foam rock background is included.
Availability Update:
Exo Terra is back! They've reintroduced all of the sizes which were temporarily discontinued.
Micro habitats for small creatures & plant-only environments
▾ Show Description ▾
These acrylic habitats are an interesting take on traditional terrariums. Their ability to be snapped together makes shipping them a cinch, and the high quality acrylic parts look great in person. Each terrarium comes with a molded acrylic base which holds water, which is an absolutely critical feature many other break-down terrariums lack. Each door has a simple locking mechanism. Overall, these are a great choice for those working with invertebrates & plant-only terrariums.

Zoo Med's high quality single-door glass terrariums
▾ Show Description ▾
NEHERP Staff Description
Zoo Med's terrariums are a pickup only item, due to their packaging preventing reliably safe shipping. We've always been fans of Zoo Med's terrarium design, and love that they are made here in the USA. Zoo Med enclosures feature a stainless steel screen, snap-shut doors, and 6 tubing/power slots for accessories to be added. Their updated designs (2023) offer better locking mechanisms and tighter clearances, too! See our showroom for current availability, or contact us at support@neherpetoculture.com or (203)768-3414 to confirm availability.

NEHERP Staff Description
We can special order any type of aquarium upon request, and we do our best to be as competitive as possible. The overwhelming majority of aquariums we use & recommend are built by Aqueon, whose quality seems to be industry standard. We've always had good luck with the brand, and their black trim goes well with the type of work we do. These are also the recommended brand for anyone using a NEHERP Vertical Conversion Kit. Aquarium prices fluctuate with the market, so don't hesitate to reach out & request a quote. There's no obligation to purchase, and we're always happy to help. If you are looking for an especially big enclosure, we're happy to offer pallet/forklift service to get it onto any vehicle or trailer you bring. Discounts available to anyone looking to purchase in volume.

Bulkhead Installation Service

Professional improvements to consumer-grade terrariums
(Clear silicone gasket shown added between the doors shown above)
▾ Show Description ▾
NEHERP Staff Description:
Many brands of mainstream terrariums are designed to keep common species of Reptiles and Amphibians contained, but aren't tightly built enough to prevent the escape of ultra-tiny creatures like Fruit Flies, Jumping Spiders, Pinhead Crickets, and so on. Customers looking for the tightest terrariums possible may benefit from our Flyproofing service. This service is performed overnight (1 business day), and results in extremely tightly sealed glass panels and plastic tops. To decrease the exposure around glass panel gaps, we use a clear silicone gasket/seal which is created in-house. For plastic (top) fly proofing, we typically use a very thin bead of a type of removable adhesive which will not damage or permanently alter the terrarium itself. While we can't guarantee flies will never escape, we are able help provide the tightest seal possible; short of literally sealing the terrarium up permanently.
This item must be quoted in-person! Every terrarium is different, and each job will vary (Typically under $20 for smaller enclosures!)
Professional improvements to consumer-grade terrariums
(Silicone bead shown added to the bottom of the trim shown above)
▾ Show Description ▾
NEHERP Staff Description:
Leaks aren't common with the brands of terrariums we carry, and this service is not recommended for most folks building their own terrariums at home. For anyone who will be moving a completed terrarium around after it's finished - especially at full weight - adding an extra silicone bead along the interior, exterior lower, and exterior bottom of the enclosure can be worth the added effort. As a heavy terrarium is moved, the structure flexes. This flexing motion with the added weight of a full vivarium inside can rarely cause nuisance pinhole leaks where the panels meet. By adding a little extra assembly-grade high tensile strength silicone in the right areas, we're able to greatly reduce the chances of encountering a leaky enclosure after moving it. When this procedure is performed correctly, the beads are borderline invisible from the typical viewer's perspective, and won't generally be noticed unless they are pointed out. While this practice won't guarantee a leak-free experience, we can confidently state that no terrarium we've performed this service on has ever been reported to leak.
This item must be quoted in-person! Every terrarium is different, and each job will vary (Typically under $15 for smaller enclosures!)

Consultation Service: Animal Husbandry
(Tropical Reptiles & Amphibians)
▾ Show Description ▾
We aren't a pet store, and we don't purchase animals for resale. We work with animals because we love learning about them, and learning from them. NEHERP is lucky to employ a handful of former (and current) breeders of a wide variety of different Reptile & Amphibian species, and our NEHERP's management brings over 50 years of animal husbandry experience to the table. (Members of our team have degrees in Captive Wildlife Care & Education & Zoology, too!) If we don't have personal experience with the animal species you've got, chances are we'll be able to connect you with one of our professional breeder customers for the most reliable advice. As a general rule, if it's a tropical Reptile or Amphibian species that's readily available captive bred in our industry, someone who works here has likely worked with it. (Plus Bearded Dragons and Leopard Geckos of course!)

Important: We aren't a vet, and we don't offer veterinary care. If you are working with a Reptile or Amphibian in need of medical care, please use the ARAV "Find A Vet"ext. link tool to find a qualified Reptile/Amphibian vet.

Consultation Service: Tropical Plant Care
(Terrarium-centric)
▾ Show Description ▾
Are your terrarium plants causing drama in your life? You aren't alone. Plants can be fickle creatures, and terrariums can be tough to get "dialed-in". Maybe it's too much water, or not enough light. Maybe your Mother-In-Law looked at the plant the wrong way, and now it's deeply offended. In any case, we're happy to put our years of terrarium plant experience to work for you and your most persnickety plants. Every member of our showroom's team has some hands-on experience in our grow rooms, as well as experience building & maintaining planted terrariums. We'll do our best to help answer any terrarium plant related question you have.
Always free to customers
No appointment necessary
Important: Our business's primary focus is on tropical terrarium plants. We'll help whenever we can, however we may not be qualified to offer professional-level advice w/cacti, shrubbery, and (non-jewel) Orchids. For those, we'd be happy to put you in touch with a more specialized shop.
