We
have Wingless Drosophila Melanogaster and Flightless Drosophila Hydei
available on your choice of fly media.
Melanogaster is a smaller fly that produces quickly and in large
numbers, while Hydei is larger and produces slower in smaller numbers. Either
of these are an excellent food source for dart frogs and many other small
amphibians & reptiles. Producing cultures are at least 2 weeks
developed with larvae already pupating. Freshly started cultures are
up to one week developed. All available producing
cultures are made with our proven effective NEHERP fly media which is
available in our
insect breeding section.
If you are new to flies, the easiest, fastest, and in our opinion most
reliable fruit flies to learn with are D. Melanogaster.

Freshly Started 16oz Springtail Cultures
Springtails are the cleanup crew of a vivarium and can be used as a
feeder insect for smaller species. One culture should
be enough to seed most small/medium sized vivariums or to begin breeding
your own cultures. These creatures are an invaluable part of vivarium
building that make owner's life much easier. They eat fungus,
mold, and the inhabitant's waste all while breeding in the terrarium.
We've used these in nearly every vivarium we've built.
Charcoal cultures
can last a very long time if taken care of properly and make breeding
springs a snap. Mixed media cultures are an easy way to get all the
springtails directly into a vivarium without having to "shake it out".
Just dump the mixed media culture directly into your substrate layer and go! Each culture
comes
with a film canister of brewers yeast (springtail food) at no additional
charge. As always our cultures are guaranteed to be free of mites and
other microfauna.
Please note - while cultures on charcoal
are easier to breed, they are much more prone to damage during shipping.
If you are using ground shipping, we suggest choosing cypress/coco based
cultures to reduce risks.
(It's 100% your choice, of course!)

Isopods
'Rough Woodlouse'

One of the faster breeding isopods
we're working with - they do a great job keeping vivariums clean & tidy!
They are a smaller species, too with a maximum length of about 3/4".
Each one of our starter cultures includes 15 to 20 subadults & adults
which can either be added directly to a vivarium, or they can be introduced
into a breeding kit (optional) which should begin to produce within a couple
weeks. Limit one
culture per customer, please!
The optional breeding kit includes the
following:
1
Sterilite 6qt Container
1 Gallon bag of Substrate (NEHERP
viv substrate + cypress + crushed leaf litter)
1 4oz
Repashy Bug Burger
We mist our isopods every other day, and
feed 2-3X per week or when the food disappears. We offer each culture
about 1/2-1 tbsp Repashy Bug Burger every feeding, and keep them @ room temp
(73F-78F).
