African Violets
Gesneriaceae Saintpaulia
African violets come
from a highly humid jungle environment - so higher humidity is great
for these plants. The colors of the flowers vary quite a bit - but
we generally only stock the purple which seems to be most commonly
used in vivariums today. Try not to hit the leaves with cold water -
as it can cause spotting. They do best if misted only sparingly -
allowing the plant to drink mainly thru the substrate. Don't pack
the substrate too tightly around the plant - allow for some aeration
& breathing. We try to ship these before they flower - as the
flowers would otherwise almost certainly be damaged during shipping.
